ur Rotarian of the Day today is Dolly Dixon. Dolly was born in Okemah, Okla., and moved to Okmulgee at an early age. She graduated from Okmulgee High School and attended OSU Okmulgee. She worked for 14 years in insurance and real estate.
In 1966, Dolly moved to Tulsa, and worked for Bryce Insurance. In 1972, she married Don Thomas and moved to El Dorado, Kansas. Dolly and Don owned and operated Thomas Drum Co., a company that reconditioned oil drums. After Don’s death, Dolly operated the drum plant until 1980.
She returned to Tulsa for family reasons, and to manage their 360-acre farm in Wagoner County. When she came back to Tulsa, she also went back to work for Bryce Insurance, where she retired as office manager in 1997.
In 1994, Dolly met Stan Dixon, a.k.a “Mother Hen.” Dolly and Stan enjoyed traveling and each other’s company, and they married in 2001 on the beach of Kauai. Dolly enjoyed working with Stan on his passion, the Dictionary Project. Stan passed away in March 2006.
Dolly was one of the first women to join Southside, and became a member in May 2007. She was proposed by Larry Boyer.
Dolly, thank you for being a part of Southside. It’s good to have you in the club!
