
ur “Rotarian of the Day” today is Phillip L. Scott, better known to our club as “Phil.”
He is a native Tulsan, born September 10, 1953. He graduated from Memorial High School in 1971, and attended Oklahoma State University from 1971-1973. He then came back to Tulsa and enrolled at the University of Tulsa, graduating in 1975 with a B.S. in accounting.
He is the sales manager at L&M Office Furniture and has been since 2003. Phil has spent his entire life in the office furniture business, starting as a part-time employee working for his dad at Dan P. Scott & Sons. His grandfather, H.J. Scott, started Scott-Rice Company in Tulsa in the 1920s. His great-grandfather, T.E. Smiley, was one of the early settlers in Tulsa, arriving in the late 1800s.
Phil is married to Linda. They have three children: Jared (1978), Zachary (1981), and Sarah (1988). Phil enjoys working on the landscape in their yard and playing golf.
Phil has been a member of Southside since January 1989. He was club service director (1991-1992), secretary (1992-1993), vice president (1993-1994), and then president (1994-1995). He was on the board of the Southside Foundation (1996-2000).

Forrest Cameron
ur speaker today is Forrest Cameron, Ph.D. Forrest was born in Santa Monica, California. He is a veteran of the U. S. Army, where he served from 1966-1968. He received his BSBA degree in economics from the University of Tulsa in 1974, and his MBA in 1978 from Morehead (Kentucky) State University, and his MA degree in communications from Morehead State University in 1980.
Because he wasn’t yet tired of school, he completed his Ph.D. in communication from The University of Kentucky in Lexington in 1989. His career as an editor began in 1976, when he became editor and publisher of the Appalachian News-Express in Pikeville, Kentucky. He then worked as the coordinator of mining technology at Pikeville College, then the coordinator of energy and reclamation studies for Morehead State University, and the director of development at Monte Cassino School.
He capped off his career with colleges as the executive director of college advancement at the Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is now the editor and publisher of the Greater Tulsa Reporter Newspapers, founded in 1992, which include the Union Boundary, Jenks Gazette, Tulsa Free Press, Owasso Rambler, Broken Arrow Express, Bixby Breeze and GTR News Online: www.gtrnews.com.
A member of the Rotary Club of Tulsa, Forrest is married to Sharon T. Cameron. They have two sons.

- The Will Rogers Club’s 2008 Gala, Patriotic Country, honors country musician Toby Keith, the recipient of the 2008 Will Rogers Spirit Award. The ceremony is Nov. 4, 2008, at Tulsa Marriott Southern Hills. The reception is at 5:30 p.m., dinner is at 6:30 p.m., and the program begins at 7:30 p.m. Individual tickets are $125 and the attire is “fancy Western.” For more information, visit the Rotary Club of Will Rogers at www.willrogerstrotary.org. Proceeds go to Ally’s House, which benefits children with cancer.
- The Tulsa Sunrise Club’s annual fundraiser, the Gingerbread Village, will be Nov. 22-Dec. 13 at Woodland Hills Mall. They are looking for people and businesses to sponsor or build gingerbread houses, whether for the competition or just for the fun of it. If you have any questions, call Kay Hays at 294-9485.
- Rotarians will celebrate Rotary UN Day at the United Nations in New York on November 8, 2008 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is slated to give a special presentation to the Rotarians at the Rotary UN Day. There will also be presentations and panel discussions about Rotarian issues like water, health, literacy, and hunger. You can see the schedule for Rotary UN Day online here.
