ur “Rotarian of the Day” today is Brett Brough. Brett was born November 22, 1955 in Denver, Colorado, and raised in Estes Park, Colorado. His grandfather was a member of the Estes Park Rotary Club. He married Leisa Gebetsberger in 1995.

Brett was proposed by Steve Gray and was inducted into Southside Rotary in 1999. His classification is Mortgage Banker and he is a licensed loan planner with Cityscape Home Mortgage. He also speaks a little Spanish, and he is a great member of our club. He has served as International Service Director, Club Service Director, Sergeant at Arms and Secretary. Brett is a Paul Harris Fellow.

This Week’s Program

Howard Plowman

O

ur speaker today is Howard Plowman. Howard was born in Collinsville, Oklahoma and moved to Tulsa when he was 6 months old. He graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1941. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, serving 30 months in England with the 29th Air Force. After the war, he attended Tulsa University and graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Pre-Ministry with an English emphasis.

Plowman graduated from Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University, with a Masters in Theology in 1952 and received an honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Oklahoma City University in 1977. He, another minister, and Governor David Boren were honored with degrees at the same time.

Plowman has served as pastor of several churches in Oklahoma, including Ardmore First United Methodist Church, where he served seven years, and Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City, from which he retired in 1994. He has served in administrative positions, including superintendent of the Tulsa District from 1985-1990. He also served as pastor of the New Haven United Methodist Church in Tulsa from 1970-1973.

Plowman has been a member of Rotary Clubs in Tishomingo, Ponca City, Elk City, Oklahoma City, Ardmore, and Tulsa. He is now serving as Vice President of the Tulsa Metropolitan Ministry and is President-elect of the Meals on Wheels Board. In years past, Plowman has served on the Board of Directors of the Oklahoma Methodist Manor, advisory member of the Inverness Board, and on the executive committee of Restore Hope Ministries. Howard and Trudy, his wife, have been married 58 years. They have three children and six grandchildren. Since we are a week away from Thanksgiving, his topic today will be “Being Thankful.”

- The Tulsa Sunrise Club’s annual fundraiser, the Gingerbread Village, will be Nov. 22-Dec. 13 at Woodland Hills Mall. They are looking for people and businesses to sponsor or build gingerbread houses, whether for the competition or just for the fun of it. If you have any questions, call Kay Hays at 294-9485.

- Don’t forget to get your dictionary lists from your principals. Ben Estes, Lamp, and Jack Koehle have already delivered dictionaries. The books are at Ti Amo’s, just waiting for you.

- Pat Riehle won the $50 Ti Amo’s gift certificate for Jerry Ramey’s “Rotarian” question.
