This Week’s Program

Steve Edgar
Our speaker today is Steve Edgar. Steve grew up in Russellville, Arkansas, and graduated from Arkansas Tech University with a BS in Accounting in 1974. He attended the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and graduated in December 1976. He then moved to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma to begin work as a tax specialist for the Peat, Marwick, & Mitchell, accounting firm in Tulsa.

In 1978, he went to work for the Bank of Oklahoma Trust Department to run the trust and estate tax department. In 1979, he left BOK to begin his legal career with Chapel, Wilkinson, Riggs & Abney. He left there in 1983 to work for himself. In 1984, he formed a partnership with Jerry Perigo to practice law as Edgar & Perigo. In 1987, Mike Hilsabeck joined the firm to become Edgar, Perigo & Hilsabeck. They practiced together until 2005, when Mike left the firm and then until 2009, when Edgar & Perigo dissolved and Steve moved his office to Broken Arrow to continue practice as a sole practitioner.

He was appointed as an alternate judge for the city of Broken Arrow in 2000, and served in that capacity until April 2005 when the presiding judge quit. He filled in as the presiding judge until October 2005 when he was appointed to that position, where he continues to serve. He now splits his time between his law practice and his judicial duties.

Steve has been married to his “high school sweetheart,” Charlene, for 37 years. They have one daughter, who lives in Dallas, Texas.

As background leading to his climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Steve had unexpected triple by-pass heart surgery in January 2007. During his recovery, he saw a documentary on Kilimanjaro, and told his wife he would like to climb the mountain some day to test himself. She supported him and exactly 20 months after the surgery, he began the climb.

Steve, thank you for being with us today. Tulsa Southside Rotary welcomes you!

Southsider Quick Notes

Last week…
- Our ROD last week was David Hughes and our speaker was Major Dan Rooney with Folds of Honor.

- The Henry Bellmon Awards will be held September 16 at the Mayo Hotel. If we sell all the corporate tables that we want, then only 100 individual tickets will remain (again, at $125 apiece). Make your reservations now!

- If you want to pick up some Topeca coffee for the fundraiser, see Josh Butts. We’re supposed to buy or sell 20 bags apiece.

- Monthly statements have gone out, and quarterly dues are due in April!

- Our breakout meeting will be at Stokely’s on April 15, and we’ll be having a club assembly that day.

- The board also approved taking 225 kids from Springdale Elementary to a baseball game on May 5! That will be our meeting that week, so sign up to go! It’s a 10 a.m. game, so we should have the kids back at school around 2 p.m. It will cost around $2,000 for the whole thing, so if you could donate some money, we’d really appreciate it!

- Be sure to check the Upcoming Programs for our speaker list through the Change of Horses (June 2010). Information on it is subject to change, but we’ll do our best to keep it updated!

- Next week, our speaker will be Steve Edgar, talking about his climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
