Our Rotarian of the Day today is Cindy Llewellyn. A Louisiana native, Cindy moved to rural Oklahoma at a young age. Graduating from Wynona High School, she continued her education in technical school with a degree in Television and Radio. With her third-class FCC license, she worked for a few years as a disc jockey.
A career change led her to become the housing manager for the third largest public housing authority in Oklahoma. In 1994, Cindy’s entrepreneurial spirit and artistic abilities prevailed leading her to establish a printing company, which has operated successfully for the past 16 years. They continue to expand their product line to include graphic design, printing, signage, shirts, hats, and much more.
Cindy married her husband, Dan, and became a stepmother to his son Daniel. They are residents of Broken Arrow.
Cindy is a church organist and enjoys singing, gardening, drawing, painting, and playing golf with her husband. She has been a member of Southside since January 2009.
This Week’s Program
Gary Sheely
Our speaker today is Gary Sheely. He is an expert “catalyst for courage” in the lives of those who want to break free and live their fullest life. Gary is an executive coach who helps people plan and grow their business while balancing the competing pressures of professional and personal life. He is a popular adjunct instructor at Saint Gregory’s University Tulsa campus, where he was named Faculty of the Year in spring of 2008.
Gary has combined 30 years of his experiences as a counselor, executive coach, adjunct instructor and skydiving instructor/jumpmaster to offer his seasoned insights in a book entitled, Cutting Away: Facing the Fatal Five to Survive and Thrive. His book outlines how resistance to personal change sabotages our health, happiness and safety. The title of his book, Cutting Away, is a metaphor drawn from his experiences as a skydiving instructor.
A former professional stage magician, he also continues to perform occasionally as a “pseudo-psychic entertainer and humorist” in the Tulsa/Oklahoma City area.
Gary is a professional member of the National Speaker’s Association, and pastors a small church in Sapulpa on weekends.
Gary, thank you for being with us today. Tulsa Southside Rotary welcomes you!
Southsider Quick Notes
Last week…
- Our ROD last week was Steve Haas and our speaker was Steve Edgar, who discussed his climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
- The Henry Bellmon Awards will be held September 16 at the Mayo Hotel. If we sell all the corporate tables that we want, then only 100 individual tickets will remain (again, at $125 apiece). Make your reservations now!
- Brian Huddleston is now the one who takes your checks for the RI Foundation.
- If you want to pick up some Topeca coffee for the fundraiser, see Josh Butts. We’re supposed to buy or sell 20 bags apiece.
- Monthly statements have gone out, and quarterly dues are due now!
- We’ll be having another Fireside Chat on May 18. Place and time to be announced later.
- We inducted a new member last week: Patti Kuck! Welcome to Southside, Patti!
- The board also approved taking 225 kids from Springdale Elementary to a baseball game on May 5! That will be our meeting that week, so sign up to go! It’s a 10 a.m. game, so we should have the kids back at school around 2 p.m. It will cost around $2,000 for the whole thing, so if you could donate some money, we’d really appreciate it!
- Be sure to check the Upcoming Programs for our speaker list through the Change of Horses (June 2010). Information on it is subject to change, but we’ll do our best to keep it updated!
- Next week, we’ll be meeting at Stokely’s, and we’ll have a club assembly.
