ur Rotarian of the Day today is Don den Daas, our president. Don was born March 17, 1949 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and was raised in California.

He joined Southside in 1986 and has served as international director, vocational director, foundation trustee and club secretary. He is a Paul Harris Fellow, Southside Star and Rotary Benefactor.

Don is married to Judy (also a Paul Harris Fellow), an eighth grade teacher in the Jenks School system. They have been married for 37 years and have two children: David, an architect who resides in Tulsa, and Katie, a news producer who lives in Oklahoma City.

Don spent three years in the Army. After his enlistment, Don completed his education at Colorado State University, receiving a BSBA degree. Currently, he is president of Edge Technologies, a company that sells, installs and maintains traditional telephone systems as well as PC- and IP- based communications systems.

Don, you are doing a terrific job as our president! Sure you don’t want to stay on for another year?

Last week…
- Our ROD last week was Jerry Ramey, and our speaker was Jennifer Mansell.

- Happy birthday to Medhi Khezri and Ken Bays!

- We have a new member: Tracey Raines! Her classification is Accounting – Non-Profit. Be sure to welcome her to the club.

- Michelle Pierce brought us a banner from the Cancun Rotary Club.

- The Claremore Reveille Club will be meeting at the Rogers State University Centennial Center starting May 14. The address is 1701 West Will Rogers Blvd. Claremore, OK 74017. They welcome all Rotarians to come and join them for “breakfast, coffee, and nature in the heart of Claremore.” 6:30 a.m., guys, but they do say they’ll have coffee.

- Here’s the weekly update on Biscuit Acres:

  • - We have clearance to put the dog biscuit signs on the fence at the park.
  • - The fence posts are up!
  • - We’re going to have a real brick entrance now, as well as a fire hydrant in the park for the big dogs.
  • - The grand opening is June 6. The Founder’s Banquet is June 4.
  • - Remember, everybody: Get your donations in. Talk to people and get pledges. We’re on our way to $50,000!

- Next week, Janice Nicklas will be the ROD, and the program is a surprise!
