Today’s ROD is another Zonie Jim Netherton. Jim is a charter member of Southside Rotary. He was born in Oklahoma City in 1921 and graduated from high school there before attending Oklahoma A & M College (currently the “State’s University” Oklahoma State, not to be confused with the State’s Flagship University, The University of Oklahoma). He received a Bachelor of Science in Art in 1943. He was in advanced ROTC which enabled him to attend Officer Candidate School before joining the 42nd Infantry Division, 142nd Engineering Battalion during World War II. He received a Purple Heart for his service. After returning from the war, Jim continued his education at Oklahoma A & M College and received a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1946.
After graduation, Jim worked for four years before being called back into the army during the Korean conflict. He served most of his tour of duty in Wisconsin and Austria. Upon returning, he opened his engineering firm, Netherton and Associates, in Tulsa.
Jim has always enjoyed fishing. He and his beloved wife, Martha Jeanne (deceased), have two children, James C. III and Nancy Elliot, both of whom live in Florida.
FYI: A Zonie is a member of the St. Francis Health Zone, an exercise facility.

Take a moment now to email Brett
o Past Presidents: Steve Glenn is working on gathering lots of information. I would ask each of you to put together your recollection of your year as president. Include the projects and events of your year. Please put together one page, including your the names of your Board members.
o Members: If you have any “things” – papers, pictures, water well drill bits from Bolivia, or what ever, please let Steve Glenn know. We want to put together some tables where people can look over some of our history, perhaps do a show and tell. Now if you’ve been in the club more than 10 years, you have something to share that will be valuable to all.
Finally, we would like to remind you to invite past members, wives, dignitaries, media, District, Zone or International leadership to join us in our celebration. This evening will be fun, with a quick look back, and a glimpse of tomorrow. We can have a wonderful evening in celebration of the last 50 years as we begin our next 50 years, but the program will count on you!
This will be a special evening, you won’t want to miss out, but without you and your history, we will short change our members. Click here to e-mail Brett with your thoughts.
Southsider Quick Notes
o New member – Benjamin Gibbs – Stock Broker Welcome to the Club Benjamin.
o The Foundation still has about $ 15,000 available. If you have a good cause, send get a request to a Board member before the next meeting this month. Please remember to keep the following in mind.
o We do ask for a written request that thoroughly explains the needs. Some of the things the Board takes into consideration prior to voting on a request include:
o 510C3
o A Mission Statement
o Description of how funds are to be used
o Prefer not to be a ministry
o Must have a face with the request – for an example a blanket request for the DAV will probably not be approved, but a request from the local branch of the DAV for a project to assist a returning veteran who has a need would be considered.
o In the past the Board has also attempted to give priority to requests coming from members.
