Rotarian of the Day
Brett Brough

Brett Brough

O

ur Rotarian of the Day today is Brett Brough. Brett was born in Denver and raised in Estes Park, Colorado. His very first business was B&R Worms, where he sold fishing bait to sporting goods dealers around Rocky Mountain National Park.

Since then, Brett has expanded his resume considerably.. He started his broadcasting career in 1971, managed a recording studio in 1980, and managed an entertainment agency in 1981. In 1983, he managed inventory and traffic for an oil field supply company; in 1989, he began work as a paralegal; in 1996, Brett worked as a partner in a Costa Rican grand lux resort development; and in 2003, he became a mortgage broker. Now, Brett works for Cityscape Home Mortgage as a licensed loan planner.

Brett joined us at Southside in 1999, when he was proposed by Steve Gray. He’s served our club in numerous capacities: as Sergeant at Arms, International Service Chair, Club Service Chair, and Club Secretary. He’s also a fantastic event planner. Again this year, Brett will be bowling with Rotarians from Southside, Southeast and Tulsa Rotary Clubs.

Brett is married to Leisa Gebetsberger. They have a nephew currently serving in the Army in Afghanistan until next June.

Brett, thank you for arranging the program today, and thank you for being in the club!

Southsider Quick Notes

Last week…
- Our ROD last week was Tim Douglas, and our speaker was Mike Henley with Fine Airport Parking.

- We have a potential new member, proposed by Tom Wenrick. Speak now or forever hold your peace:
Neill McCown
Classification: Active/Retired Insurance

- We were fortunate to have Wallace Williams, our district governor-elect, with us last week. He talked about the Rotary Institute meeting that will be here in Tulsa on Sept. 10-13.

  • The main meeting will be Friday, Sept. 11, at 12:00 p.m. at the Southern Hills Marriott. We’ll be having our weekly meeting there, so there will NOT be a meeting at Ti Amo’s on Thursday, Sept. 10.
  • There will also be a breakfast and a lunch on Saturday. The cost is $25 apiece.
  • If you’d like to be a Rotary greeter at the airport, or if you’d like to help transport people to and from the hotel, there are sign-up sheets.

- Engineers Without Borders is having a wine-tasting fundraiser on Thursday, August 27, at 7 p.m. at the Tulsa Garden Center. The funds will go to support the EWB-OKEAST and EWB-TU trips to Bolivia in November to build eco latrines. The cost is $45 in advance and $50 at the door. In addition to wine, there will be appetizers and desserts (provided by Ti Amo’s), music, flamenco dancing, and a silent auction.

- Biscuit Acres has water now! Hooray!

- Bob Winters is back with the sports report! Hooray! Last year he went 38-10, which is pretty darn good. Here are his predictions for the year:

  • TU, ranked #2: 9-3 or 8-4
  • Arkansas, ranked #4 SEC West: 8-4 or 7-5
  • OSU, ranked #3 Big XII South: 9-3 or 8-4
  • OU, ranked #1 Big XII South (tied with Texas, a first!): 10-2 or 11-1

- Jessica Cox is our new membership chair, and we’ve got some updates on how this membership drive is going to work. Medhi says it will be $5 for guest meals now, so it will be much less expensive to invite somebody. Our team information is now on the website, and team leaders need to remind their teammates to bring guests. We’ll be updating our membership brochure PDF, and creating a club blue book to educate guests on what Rotary is and what we do.

- Be sure to check the website for our speaker list through November. Information on it is subject to change, but we’ll do our best to keep it updated!

- Next week, our speaker is A.C. Moncrief, our district governor!
