Kevin Blair

puppy

O

ur “Rotarian of the Day” today is Kevin Blair, a native Oklahoman who’s lived in the Tulsa area since 1985. Kevin currently lives in Broken Arrow with his wife, CeAnne, and son, Eston. He is a graduate of both the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University, which makes you wonder who he roots for during the OU/OSU game every year.

He joined Southside in 2004 originally, had to be gone for awhile, and rejoined in 2007. He works for the City of Tulsa in the Park and Recreation Department. He is responsible for: programs for at-risk youth, Junior Olympics and recreation program planning. Kevin is also developing a public administration consulting company. His hobbies include: amateur radio and outdoor recreation.

Kevin, thank you for arranging today’s program.

(I could find no pictures for him, so you get this picture of an adorable puppy instead.)

This Week’s Program

Isabell Estes

O

ur speaker today is Isabell Estes. She owns the Tulsa office of The Entrepreneur’s Source, an international network of business ownership consultants who work with individuals and companies considering franchising as a career alternative or a method of expansion.

A self-described advocate for self-sufficiency and business ownership, she decided to open the Tulsa office of The Entrepreneur’s Source in order to assist others in what she did for herself. An active community leader, she is a past board president of Leadership Tulsa and presently volunteers with the Girl Scouts and SCORE. Most recently, the Tulsa Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce awarded her the Women In Business Champion award for 2008.

Her topic today is “The Art of People Watching.” The Tips Presentation Agenda will include:

* Introduction: “We see the world not as it is, but as we are.”
* What is the DISC assessment?
* How to identify someone as a D, I, S, or C.
* What style are you – D, I, S, or C?
* How to communicate with the different styles.

Isabell, thank you for being with us today. The Southside Rotary Club welcomes you, and we look forward to your presentation!

A Note From Past District Governor Don Walker
We received this email from Don Walker, the past governor for District 6110. Here’s what he has to say about Alliance for Smiles:

“During the first two weeks of August, I accompanied Anita Stangl, The President and CEO of Alliance for Smiles, to a number of Rotary clubs in District 6110. Alliance for Smiles provides free cleft lip and plate surgery for needy children and has captured my heart and imagination. I now want to tell all clubs in District 6110 about their work and commitment to Rotary.

“Many of you know that after my time as District Governor, I have gone on medical missions where I personally have seen hundreds of children’s lives changed. I want people in District 6110 to have a similar opportunity. I am reaching out to Rotarians in this District to sponsor Alliance for Smiles’ 14th medical mission to Huangshi, China.

“I am arranging for a number of non-medical volunteers to go on this mission and help. For those who cannot go this time, I am asking you to open your hearts and donate to cover the direct costs of the mission. This amount is $80,000 and will give full Rotary sponsorship recognition to District 6110 on T-shirts, press releases, and the web page. Over 120 children will have their lives changed in a positive and dramatic way.

“I want to tell you what impresses me about Alliance for Smiles. I love children and I want to make a difference in their lives when I can do something. There is tremendous satisfaction that I personally have experienced because of volunteering and literally seeing miracles take place through the skill of our surgeons. Being part of an effort that changes children’s and families’ lives, has changed me as well.

“The second part of the organization that impresses me is the commitment of Alliance for Smiles to spread the work and message of Rotary, of Service above Self. Alliance for Smiles was founded by five members of the Rotary Club of
