Besides the loss of human homes, many birds also lost their homes with the destruction of so many trees and habitat in the Joplin area during the May 22 tornado. Here’s a chance to give them a helping hand by putting together as many birdhouses and nesting platforms as we can in one day!
This come and go event is open to ages 9 and up (any age welcome-recommended age for constructing the houses) and will include music, food and prizes throughout the day. In addition, this project will provide a nature-based activity that fosters a sense of service and rebuilding of the community’s backyard landscape.
The birdhouses and nesting platforms will be given away to anyone affected by the tornado for placement in their yard this spring along with trees, shrubs and native plants.
Note: Please contact Valerie Searcy at vsearcy@unitedwayswmosek.org no later than Wednesday, November 9 if you plan on participating in this event.
